Tiptoeing

Woman reading poem Titled: Tiptoeing

(Poem) “Tiptoeing”

Author: Jim Kelly- The Quiet Witness

Tiptoeing
To be Black,
in white spaces we thrive,
is to be seen as safe—
but only if we tiptoe.

And the hardest part—
the mystery—
is that we are not dancing.
Not anymore.

Tiptoeing
is the silent literature
of self-editing.

A language learned
before words,

where survival teaches
which parts of ourselves
must arrive quietly.

And that
is lived trauma.

Qouted Message From Author: Jim is a poet residing in Los Angeles. His work explores themes of humanity, race, social justice, caregiving, memory, grief, aging, faith, and resilience. Drawing from lived.

I really do enjoy the way you write, but if I can be objective on the topic, the civil rights we enjoy today didn’t come from tiptoeing, unless we were tiptoeing far away from enslavement because people will always rebel against unjust enslavement because it is not meant for mankind.
