There are many different forms of poetry. A poet will also write a poem without ever speaking a word. These writers I call a silent bringer of life. A poet that writes without reciting has the ability to have a beat within the text. Poetry can have many meanings.
There are writers who write a poem for the reader to answer the question. We have poems that are a way to express a feeling that the writer is experiencing. Equally important there is never a one size fits all for a poem. We use our poetry platform to give African-American writers a voice. As a result this is a place where writers don’t have to feel like they have to be politically correct to thrive. Each poem will give a description of the writer’s inspiration. Yes, we do have to voice to our African American writers that this is a place where we want to hear your voice. It is not a place where you will be targeted by Urban Poem’s producers for voicing the best times in your life nor the most difficult. Let’s be honest, there are many evils in the world including but not limited to racism. Throughout history, and still today, at higher rates African American artist are targeted first and then targeted again for speaking about the hatred they had to endure. They are not alone, because what every person finds out when they choose to do the right thing is that all along it was really just good vs evil. Though, I want this to be known loud and clear, racism is just one extension of evil. There are only two kinds of people in the world, and those people are not color coded but simply, good or evil. Maybe, good is too big of a commitment since we are human and flawed but being decent is not too much to ask.
Being good or decent is largely based on how you treat others, even those who can’t hold you accountable when you bully or exploit them. At one point any one who were considered of a lower class, no matter race, had to where the shoes of dehumanization. At one point all women had to where the shoes of dehumanization. Furthermore, at one point all African American people in the south had to where the shoes of dehumanization. People from all these groups but most of all good people still have to where the shoes of being dehumanized, even in the 21st century. All poets are welcome, all races, we just want to build a platform where poets who are real and genuine can relate to one another through the art of poetry. Good people of all races have always joined together throughout history to bring about positive change. Generations in the past have done their part in finding out that the world is simply good vs evil and those people choosing to be good is what brought about democracy, civil rights, women’s rights and every other right that makes a society good and fair. They decided to save their soul, let’s save ours–and write some good, real poetry like the world has never seen before.
